Dr. Graham was the only family physician in Foster Center from 1925 to 1950.  He lived for a time on Mt. Hygeia Road in Foster, where he also had an office to see patients.  He then relocated to an apartment and office located in the annex to the Bennett Store.  This building, which was known in earlier times as Welcome Rood Tavern, was the home of Henry Bennett, his son Earl Bennett, and Earl Bennett’s daughter Florence and husband Phil Kirk.  Florence was Foster’s artist of the time and was well known for her sketches and paintings.

I remember my mother taking me to Dr. Graham for exams and checkups, or for medication for flu or cold symptoms.  He always handed out “little pink pills”.

No one ever knew what was in those pills, but they always seemed to make the patients feel better.

Dr. Graham married Elizabeth C. Dawson (b. JAN 1880 in Massachusetts) on 24 JUN 1908.  She was the daughter of James Heber Dawson (b.1849 in England – 12 OCT 1927) and Harriet (b.1849 in Massachusetts).  James and Harriet’s other two children were James W. (b. 1878) and Clinton W. (b. 1884).

Dr. Graham’s father was William H. Graham, born in England in 1850, and with whom he and Elizabeth lived in 1910 in Pawtucket, RI.

A nephew, also named William J. Graham (b. 19 NOV 1908 – d. MAR 1974), married Doris C. Ashton
(b. 8 DEC 1915) – d. 3 NOV 1994).   They lived in Clayville RI.
